Deadline Deals: Mavs Acquire Four New Players in Five Draft Night Trades
Dynamic Duo Arrives from Washington
The Dallas Mavericks made a significant move at the trade deadline, acquiring All-Star center Daniel Gafford and sharpshooting forward Davis Bertans from the Washington Wizards. In exchange, the Mavs parted ways with Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick.
Bolstering the Paint
Gafford, a 24-year-old shot-blocking specialist, is expected to provide an immediate upgrade to Dallas's interior defense. The 6'11" center is averaging 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game this season.
Three-Point Threat
Bertans, a 6'10" forward from Latvia, adds a much-needed three-point shooting threat to the Mavs' lineup. He is shooting 38.3% from beyond the arc this season.
Other Moves
In addition to the Wizards trade, the Mavericks also made several other deals on draft night:
- Traded Cason Wallace to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Dereck Lively II
- Traded a future first-round pick to the Sacramento Kings for another future first-round pick
- Acquired forward PJ Washington from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for a future second-round pick
Implications for the Mavs
These trades significantly shake up the Mavs' roster, adding depth and talent at key positions. Gafford brings much-needed size and defensive presence, while Bertans and Washington provide outside shooting and versatility.
The Mavericks hope that these acquisitions will help them compete for a championship this season. With a revamped lineup and a talented core led by Luka Doncic, the Mavs are positioned to make a deep playoff run.
